50 Tips on Succeeding in Your 20s

Here are 50 tips I have collected from relatives, Quora, and various sources on succeeding in your 20s.

Succeeding in Your 20s

  1. Know that the most important investment you can make is in yourself.
  2. Prioritize learning and actively pursue learning opportunities.
  3. Read a ton (30 min per day atleast). The act of reading puts you at an advantage over others who do not read. You will have more knowledge and that combined with your experiences will set you apart.
  4. Stop talking about the things you want to achieve and actually achieve them. A dream and goal without action is only a wish. Action and execution will give you the life you dream about.
  5. Become a master at something. It doesn’t have to be a broad activity. Narrow down and find an intersection of a couple of different things.
  6. Learn how to save and invest. Learn how to create a budget and manage your money.
  7. Start thinking about becoming more of a producer than a consumer. If all you are doing is consuming, then you will never get ahead. The producers are the ones who reap most of the rewards.
  8. Don’t be afraid to test out new ideas and expand your comfort zone.
  9. Eat well, drink water, find out how much sleep your body requires.
  10. Travel to different cities, states, and countries. Go and see the world.
  11. Learn how to delay gratification.
  12. Most people waste too much time in their 20s having fun, spend time working on the life you want to have. You can still have fun, just not too much fun.

  15. Understand how money works, the principles of leverage, and how wealth is created.
  16. Write down your goals more than once per day, twice should be enough.
  17. Visualize the life you want to live a couple of minutes throughout each day.
  18. Imagine what your life would be like when you are 30. Reverse engineer plans to get you that life. Execute daily to achieve that life.
  19. Write your thoughts down in a journal to clear your mind and organize your thinking.
  20. Figure out who you are and who you want to be and bridge the gap.
  21. Create a core set of values and never compromise them.
  22. Understand the rising costs of college, and try your best to not get into too much student loan debt.
  23. If you have to get into student loan debt, make sure you have a decent GPA in a major that can pay off your debt in under 5 years.
  24. Limit personal debt like credit cards, focus more on earning more to pay cash.
  25. Try to improve 1% daily in all aspects of your life.

  42. In relationships, embrace the role of actually listening. Too many people are just waiting to speak instead of listening to what their partner is saying. Some people don’t listen at all.

  50. Do what you say you are going to do. Stick by your word and show results.
